In the next 40 years, the planet's temperature will increase until it reaches an average rise of between 1.4 ° C and 3 ° C. If greenhouse gas emissions are not mitigated soon, the evolution of global warming will be very rapid and will find us mid-century with extreme temperatures.

There are many climate simulation models that demonstrate this future increase in temperature. The results of these predictions are consistent with the evaluation of experts from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

There are stillthree aspects of climate uncertain for scientists: the sensitivity of the climate balance, the index of heat uptake of the oceans and the historical pressure of aerosols. Previous models overestimated the heat absorption capacity of the oceans, giving wrong calculations according to the researchers.

But then what will the temperature be like in 2050?

The World Meteorological Organization and TVE in collaboration show us through a newscast on the climate of the future, what awaits us towards the middle of a century.

“Good morning, August 10, 2050 and we continue with very high temperatures: it has been 10 days in much of the country with values above the average. Temperatures will continue to be high for the next few hours because the Saharan air mass will remain over Spain ”.

With this weather information, which can be heard in the following video, Mónica López will start the Newscast in 33 summers, according to the joint work of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and TVE.

This video is part of a series launched by WMO in the framework of the Climate Summit that took place in Lima in 2014

This audiovisual experiment on the future of the climate, based on scientific projections, seeks to warn the population about the damage that the planet may suffer from the advance of global warming if we continue with the high emissions of greenhouse gases.
